With its 1,800 MW of capacity, La Muela is actually the largest hydropower station in Europe. Alstom Hydro Spain was in charge of the on-site construction, erection and commissioning of 4 generators. This part of the project was managed by Alstom Bilbao. In addition to that, Alstom Hydro France was in charge of the studies, construction and tests of the Penstock. It required 6 years of construction, with 700 operators working during the times of peak production.
the La Muela II Project was both a great challenge and great achievement for SYGMA and its client. The SYGMA team was in charge of the project and site management, construction supervision and QA/QC management. SYGMA’s staff knowledge in mechanical construction was the key to success of such an ambitious project.
This project is an extension of the existing Veytaux Power Plant built in the 70's.
The extension will double the capacity of production, allowing for a power of 1,000 MW.
The construction of Veytaux Power Plant has been carried out in continuity with the La Muela Project. In this project, the experience of the SYGMA staff has proved to be indispensable on-site assistance to the client with regard to welding supervision, construction operations (erection and welding) and contract management.
Alstom Hydro France was in charge of the refurbishment of N'Seke Hydro Power Plant for SNEL (Société National d'Electricité). The main scope of work included turbines (4x65 MW), generators and hydromechanical equipment.
For this project in DRC, Alstom relied in part on SYGMA to form its site management team consisting of a site manager, a planner, a construction manager and various supervisors.

HYDRO POWER PLANT

Situated on the Nile River, in Southern Sudan, Merowe HPP is considered as the largest contemporary hydropower plants in Africa. With its 9 m long and 67 high dam, its powerhouse is equipped with 10 Francis turbines of 125 MW each. Alstom was in charge of the provision and on-site commissioning of turbines and generators.
For this important project, SYGMA provided to Alstom four powerhouse operators for the commissioning of the turbines.
